Itinerary

Day 1 – PALERMO

Arrival at Palermo airport, meeting with the guide and transfer to the center. Guided tour of the city starting from the “Quattro Canti”, intersection of two roads that separate Palermo into four districts. Visit of the church of the “Martorana”, Norman church of Greek Orthodox rite, built by the admiral Giorgio d ‘Antiochia in 1143, characteristic for the mosaics. Visit of the Cathedral “Madonna Assunta”, dedicated to the Virgin of the Assumption, inside, in a chapel, rest the relics of Saint Rosalia, patron saint of the city. Visit of the Palatine Chapel located inside the Norman Palace. Transfer to the hotel. Accommodation in reserved rooms. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2 – PALERMO – CATANIA

Breakfast at the hotel. Meeting with the guide and departure for Catania. Arrival and free lunch. Next, visit the Cathedral dedicated to Sant’Agata, the patron saint of the city, with its square with the famous Elephant, symbol of the city. Walk in the Via Etnea, one of the most commercial of the city and free time for individual activities. Afterwards, transfer to the hotel in Catania. Accommodation in reserved rooms. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3 – CATANIA – ETNA – TAORMINA

Breakfast at the hotel. Meeting with the guide and departure for the excursion on Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. Ascent by bus up to 1,800 meters and at this altitude free visit of the extinct craters of the Silvestri Mountains. Free lunch and departure for Taormina, an ancient Greek city on Mount Tauro and today a sophisticated tourist resort of international renown. Visit of the Greek-Roman Theater which offers a superb panorama over the Gulf of Catania up to Calabria and Mount Etna. Free time. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4 – CATANIA – SIRACUSA – NOTO

Breakfast at the hotel. Meeting with the guide, departure for Syracuse, ancient Greek city and home of the great Archimedes. Visit the archaeological area of Syracuse (the ancient Greek Neapolis), where we will visit: the majestic Greek theater of the 5th century BC, the Roman amphitheater, the Latomie (ancient stone quarries) of paradise surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, the legendary cave artificial called “the Ear of Dionysus”. Continuation with the visit of Ortigia (in Ortigia only external visits), the historical center of Syracuse, of the remains of the temple of Apollo, of the beautiful square of the cathedral (where you can see the baroque buildings externally: the ancient Senate building, the palace beneventano del Bosco, the archbishop’s palace) and the cathedral itself, built on the ancient Doric temple dedicated to Athena and the beautiful baroque façade. During the visit, stroll through the picturesque streets of the ancient Spanish quarter with its baroque palaces and churches and magnificent wrought-iron balconies. Lunch. In the afternoon departure for Noto: one of the most beautiful baroque cities on the island. The ancient city was completely destroyed by the terrible earthquake of 1693, the new city was completely rebuilt in the Baroque style from the 18th century. Walk in the city to discover the most beautiful churches: the cathedral, the church of San Francesco, the church of San Carlo and the facades of the beautiful noble palaces of the time, including the Nicolaci palace. Back to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 5 – CATANIA – CITY OF DESTINATION

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport.
