Itinerary

Day 1 – LISBON

Arrival at Lisbon airport, meeting with our guide, private transfer to the hotel, accommodation in the reserved rooms. Free time. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2 – LISBON

Breakfast at the hotel. Meeting with our guide, full day dedicated to visiting the city. Lisbon is one of the most fascinating cities in Europe: bright, warm, elegant and popular at the same time. In the morning we visit the church of Santo Antonio, built on the site of the birthplace of the saint, the Cathedral of Lisbon, in Romanesque style, and the Alfama district, with its narrow streets, stairways and pitches. Lunch and in the afternoon, visit of the monumental district of Belém, from where the ships set sail to discover Brazil and to the East. Stop at the Tower of Belem. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3 – LISBON – SINTRA – CABO DA ROCA – CASCAIS – ESTORIL

Breakfast at the hotel. After lunch, departure for the excursion to Sintra, the favorite place of the Portuguese monarchs. The romantic atmosphere that reigns in Sintra is due to the splendor of several palaces and gardens, including the beautiful Royal Palace (internal visit), a typical example of royal architecture from the Manueline period. We continue to Cabo Da Roca, the westernmost point of the European continent. Return to Lisbon via the beautiful cities of Cascais and Estoril, famous in particular for hosting the European royals in exile, including the last king of Italy Umberto I. Possibility to have a dinner with a Fado show (pay on spot). Back to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4 – LISBON – ÓBIDOS – ALCOBAÇA – NAZARÉ – BATALHA – FATIMA

Breakfast at the hotel. Meeting with our guide and departure for Óbidos, a charming fortified town, surrounded by 12th century walls. Visit of the medieval village, characterized by narrow streets and white houses framed in yellow and blue. We continue towards Alcobaça, a visit to the important Cistercian monastery, a UNESCO heritage site. Next Nazaré with the visit of the traditional popular neighborhoods and the site of the Miracle, from which you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Atlantic. Lunch and in the afternoon we continue to Batalha to visit the beautiful monastery, masterpiece of Portuguese Gothic erected to celebrate the victory over the Spaniards. In the late afternoon arrival in Fatima, where in 1917 the Virgin appeared with three shepherds, today home to one of the most important Marian pilgrimages in the world. Short visit to the sanctuary. In the evening possibility to participate at a torchlight procession. Arrival at the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 5 – FATIMA – TOMAR – COIMBRA – GUIMARÃES

Breakfast at the hotel. The first stop on our tour is Tomar, an ancient seat of the Order of the Templars, a fascinating city for artistic and cultural richness. Visit of the Convento de Cristo, one of the most important Renaissance works in Portugal. We continue to Coimbra, famous for the oldest University in Portugal. Visit of its main monuments: the University and its Library or Sala de las Tesis, the Duomo (external only) and the interior of the Church of Santa Cruz, which preserves the Manueline tombs of the first two kings of Portugal. After lunch, in the afternoon, we drive along the highway to Guimarães, a pretty town known as the birthplace of Portugal. Arrival at the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 6 – GUIMARÃES – BRAGA – PORTO

Breakfast at the hotel. Meeting with the guide and departure for Guimarães to visit the magnificent Ducal Palace of the fifteenth century. We continue to Braga, an historic city whose historic center is characterized by sumptuous palaces and churches, visit of its splendid cathedral. Visit of the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte, the most important monument of the city. A series of pilgrims visit the Sanctuary every year, which rises in a panoramic location at the top of a wooded hill. It was built between 1784 and 1879 in a neoclassical style with two imposing towers. But the real attraction is the staircase, which consists of several staircases built in different eras, some of which are decorated with sumptuous fountains. After lunch departure to Porto, upon arrival, a short panoramic tour of the city. Arrival at the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 7 – PORT – LISBON

Breakfast at the hotel. Meeting with the guide, morning dedicated to visiting Porto, located on the mouth of the Douro river. The visit begins with the Douro docks and the Ribeira district, declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site for its characteristics that make it unique in its kind. It consists of a maze of very narrow streets that climb up the hill overlooking the river. Then we reach the Plaça do Infante Dom Henrique, which takes its name from the navigator, and the church of São Francisco (internal visit), whose severe Gothic exterior hides the craziest Rococo triumph (500 kg of gold cover vaults, altars and pillars). At the end, visit of a winery to taste the fine Port wine. Lunch and free time for personal visits or for shopping. At 4.00 pm, departure for Lisbon (about 3 and a half hours on the motorway). Arrival at the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 8 – LISBON – CITY OF DESTINATION

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport.
